Description | BUS DRIVER/ PARAPROFESSIONAL
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation & Campus Principal
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, Bus Driver:
- Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with ability to obtain P/S endorsements.
- Valid CPR Certification.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Successfully complete DOT physical and drug/alcohol screen.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, Paraprofessional:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to instruct and manage student behavior.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES, Bus Driver:
- Follows assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
- Drives bus to and from extracurricular activities.
- Checks bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs.
- Reports all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures; completes required reports.
- Keeps records on bus mileage, gas and oil consumption; name and seating assignment of passengers transported.
- Keeps bus clean and fueled.
- Supervises students while they board, ride and exit the bus.
- Communicates with administration, as needed, regarding student behavior while on bus.
- Instructs students on safe riding rules and regulations.
- Observes all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
- Inspects bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving and records findings.
- Ensures proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crowbar, and reflector.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and informs supervisor of any conditions that are not immediately correctable.
- Reports any hazardous conditions along the route.
- Operates two-way radio equipment to communicate with school staff and administration.
- Attends and successfully completes required training program and DOT physicals and testing to maintain required certification.
- Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
- Maintains and respects the confidentiality of students, personnel, and district information.
- Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES, Paraprofessional:
- Assists the teacher in preparing and presenting instructional material to students.
- Assists the teacher in creating and maintaining administrative records and required reports.
- Conducts instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; works with individual students or small groups.
- Informs teacher of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Assists with assessment administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Helps to maintain a neat and orderly classroom, and assists with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Ensures accurate recording and timely submittal of student attendance.
- Assists in the supervision of students before and after school, as scheduled and for other special events.
- Assists with enforcing guidelines to maintain proper student discipline and conduct.
- Assists in maintaining an effective and safe school environment.
- Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and personnel information.
- Participates in professional development activities as needed for self and school improvement.
- Works as a team member to meet the system-wide needs of the school.
- Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.
- Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.
- Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.
- Participates in staff development training programs, meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedures for absences.
- Acts in a professional and ethical manner and adheres at all times to the professional Code of Ethics.
- Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.
- Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor, performs other tasks, and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.
