BUS DRIVER/ PARAPROFESSIONAL

 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Transportation & Campus Principal

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, Bus Driver:

  1. Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with ability to obtain P/S endorsements.
  2. Valid CPR Certification.  
  3. At least 18 years of age.
  4. Successfully complete DOT physical and drug/alcohol screen.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, Paraprofessional:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Ability to instruct and manage student behavior.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES, Bus Driver: 

  1. Follows assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
  2. Drives bus to and from extracurricular activities.
  3. Checks bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs.
  4. Reports all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures; completes required reports.
  5. Keeps records on bus mileage, gas and oil consumption; name and seating assignment of passengers transported.
  6. Keeps bus clean and fueled.
  7. Supervises students while they board, ride and exit the bus. 
  8. Communicates with administration, as needed, regarding student behavior while on bus.
  9. Instructs students on safe riding rules and regulations.
  10. Observes all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses. 
  11. Inspects bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving and records findings.
  12. Ensures proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crowbar, and reflector.
  13. Corrects unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and informs supervisor of any conditions that are not immediately correctable.
  14. Reports any hazardous conditions along the route.
  15. Operates two-way radio equipment to communicate with school staff and administration.
  16. Attends and successfully completes required training program and DOT physicals and testing to maintain required certification.
  17. Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations. 
  18. Maintains and respects the confidentiality of students, personnel, and district information.
  19. Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES, Paraprofessional:

  1.  Assists the teacher in preparing and presenting instructional material to students.
  2. Assists the teacher in creating and maintaining administrative records and required reports.
  3. Conducts instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; works with individual students or small groups.
  4. Informs teacher of special needs or problems of individual students.
  5. Assists with assessment administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  6. Helps to maintain a neat and orderly classroom, and assists with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  7. Ensures accurate recording and timely submittal of student attendance.
  8. Assists in the supervision of students before and after school, as scheduled and for other special events.
  9. Assists with enforcing guidelines to maintain proper student discipline and conduct.
  10. Assists in maintaining an effective and safe school environment.
  11. Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and personnel information.
  12. Participates in professional development activities as needed for self and school improvement.
  13. Works as a team member to meet the system-wide needs of the school.
  14. Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.
  15. Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.
  16. Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.
  17. Participates in staff development training programs, meetings, and special events as assigned.
  18. Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedures for absences.
  19. Acts in a professional and ethical manner and adheres at all times to the professional Code of Ethics.
  20. Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.
  21. Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor, performs other tasks, and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.
