REPORTS TO:  Cafeteria Manager/Director of Food Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. GED or High School Diploma preferred.
  2. Valid Food Handlers Permit from Texas Health and Human Services Accredited Provider.

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

In support of the mission of the school district, prepares and serves appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements; maintains high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will), Manual/Technical Pay Grade 2

180 Days, estimated 8 hours daily, Wage/Hour Status:  Nonexempt

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Prepares quality food according to a planned menu of tested, uniform recipes.
  2. Serves food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures.
  3. Practices and promotes portion control and proper use of leftovers.
  4. Supervises storage and handling of food items and supplies; maintains a clean and organized storage area.
  5. Operates tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards.
  6. Follows established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
  7. Keeps garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
  8. Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and reports any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  9. Maintains personal appearance and hygiene.
  10. Handles and records cashier functions accurately.
  11. Records food requisitions and orders necessary supplies as required.
  12. Maintains daily food preparation records.
  13. Promotes teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
  14. Cleans and washes cafeteria tables, countertops and fixtures; sets-up tables and chairs and moves furniture; dusts furniture, desks, woodwork, and blinds; replaces light bulbs.
  15. Removes paper, trash, and garbage from assigned areas and places in proper containers for disposal.
  16. Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.
  17. Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedures for absences.
  18. Provides complete and accurate information, while maintaining confidentiality, in the conduct of district business.
  19. Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  20. Participates in meetings and special events as assigned.
  21. Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  22. Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED:  Large and small kitchen equipment and tools including electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, deep fryer, sharp cutting tools, oven, dishwasher, food and utility cart.   Computer, copier, and other standard office equipment.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Repetitive hand motions; prolonged standing, walking; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, twisting, wrist flexion/extension, reaching/overhead, reaching and kneeling, and climbing (ladder) pulling, and pushing; moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds);  moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, prolonged use of computer terminal possible; district and state travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
